On the evening of October 27th, 2004, there was an eclipse of the moon, as the Earth came between the moon and the sun. Before it became all dark, it was colored orange and red by the Earth's athmosphere. This picture was taken from New York. |

I moved to New York at the end of August, 2004. Sasa, a friend from Norway, visited me there, and one evening we had dinner at the Rainbow Room, on the 65st floor of the GE Building at Rockefeller Plaza. The Empire State Bulding can be seen in the background. |

My uncle Svein (in the middle) celebrated his 50th birthday on August 14th, 2004. My father was toastmaster. People, and Svein in particular, were a bit worried when he threatened to play the violin. Uncle Øystein holds a pole with a hat that Svein was supposed to kick off the pole in a traditional Norwegian folk dance. |

In November, 2003, I bought a Beachworld biosphere from Fornum and Mason i London. The glass bowl contain a complete eco-system with shrimps, algaes and bacteria. As long as the algeas get light every day, they produce oxygen, and they are also food for the shrimps, while bacteria take care of waste. Such miniature eco-systems can keep going for many years. |

I was in New York in December 2001, and visited the site of the Twin Towers which collapsed after the terrorist attacks of September 11 that year. There was still coming smoke from the rubbels, and the fire brigade was still spraying water to stop the fires. The fires finally died out later that month, after burning for 100 days. In the background, the Deutsche Bank building which was hit by the falling South Tower. |

On my way over the mountains from Bergen to Oslo on 24 October, 1999, I stopped at Vøringfoss in Mådalen. It is a waterfall with an impressive free fall of 145 meters. The flow is normally not very impressive, except for in the summer when the flow is turned on to impress the tourists. |
