Poland and Ukraine

I visited Ukraine after the country had been under attack from Russia for close to 3 years. As there are no commercial flights to Ukraine, the trip had to go over land from Kraków, through Przemyśl and Medyka, to Lviv.

Kraków

Kraków has a history going back 1600 years, and was te capital of Poland for over 500 years. It is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, and the historic center is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Przemyśl

Situated near the border to Ukraine, this Polish city has become a point of refuge for many Ukrainians after the start of the Russian war on Ukraine in 2022. Przemysl has a long history of being fought over, by Poland, the Kyivan Rus, Hungary, Austria, Germany, the Russian and the Austro-Hungarian empires, and even Sweden

At the time of my trip, Medyka-Shehyni was the only pedestrian crossing point between Poland and Ukraine. Lviv by day
