A trip to Caucasus

I visited Baku in June, 2006, and then took the night train onwards to Tbilisi in Georgia.

Tbilisi

I arrived in Georgia by train, and what I saw made me sceptical… until I saw the center or Tbilisi, which is a charming city.

Baku

Over two million people currently live in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The name of the city is derived from the Persian word for “wind”.

Absheron peninsula

The Absheron peninsula, where Baku sits on the tip, has been the site of oil production since the 1870s, and it is today one of the most polluted places on Earth.
